Shay’s Guide to What to Men’s Cologne Types

Men’s fragrances are growing rapidly in popularity because the way a man smells can be the key to being irresistible to every woman that is within smelling distance. If you know you know, and a good smelling cologne will make you gravitate towards him even if it’s just to ask the name of his cologne so you can buy it for your man and reminisce about it.

The challenge is knowing if that scent is really good or just really good on him. The only way to know is to either buy it for your man or… learn the types of scent and cologne types and use that as a basis for the type of scent gift you would choose to give to him (or yourself).

If you’re here with me, you can go either way and opt for a candle instead because you don’t really know what that man likes to wear yet. Cologne Types

The most important thing to know about purchasing a cologne/perfume for your man (Yall don’t be mad if I assume my core audience is women lol! I am aware I get male buyers, but I got to talk to somebody directly.) is knowing the difference in price tiers and what those tiers mean and how to know the difference.

Sprits, Sprays & Mists A.K.A. Eau Fraiche

Most of what I sell are sprits, sprays and mists and these don’t have the lasting power of high-quality colognes/perfumes, but they don’t cost the same either. These are considered the more affordable items but don’t be let down because while they don’t have staying power, they are worth keeping around for daily use by your guy. They are mostly made of alcohol and water. Their content of actual perfume is very modest typically ranging from one to three percent. This is typically called Eau Fraiche by the French and is loosely translated to mean “fresh water”.

Fragrance & Cologne Mists are great for layering as you probably already know so put him up on game a.k.a. something new. A good quality cologne spray or mist will linger on the skin or article of clothing for a couple of hours, so it is nice to pair with something else like a body lotion or a deodorant or another more potent fragrance or perfume oil if that’s your thing. Shay Sends Smiles has plenty of men’s fragrance sets to fit the budget of most if not many. This is why some have a “signature” scent because this is typically their most quality fragrance item and it cost them a pretty penny. Sprays and mists are more casual wear items even though you can get some pretty seductive and charming smelling scents that wear well in any upscale environment.

Eau De Cologne

Cologne is diluted with mostly alcohol and has an actual perfume concentration of two to four percent. This makes it last a couple hours longer than a cologne spray or mist however it has to be used with a much lighter hand because the alcohol makes it more intense but since it has longer lasting power and limited oils like its lesser costing counterpart, that makes it excellent for hot humid Summers and wet Springs.

Eau De Toilette

While the name is misleading, it simply implies that the performance will be much sweeter. This level of scent offers five to fifteen percent perfume concentration and can last a significantly longer time but not an entire day. This type is great for the 9 to 5’er who tends to come home and switch personas after a long, mentally exhausting type of day.

Eau De Perfume

This level of scent is what most feminine scents lend to as perfumes are usually for them but as I said, masculine fragrance is becoming more popular as men give way to becoming more enticing and practicing self-care. The perfume concentration is around fifteen to twenty percent and lasts about as long as an Eau De Toilette, it’s just more concentrated. These will also cost more than most Eau De Toilette’s, but the experience is much different, and it is worth the extra money for the more potent effect.

Perfume/Extrait De Perfume

Now this is not for the faint at heart because this is the MOST potent option when choosing a fine fragrance and this is what “some” would choose for their “signature” scent. This option boasts a whopping twenty to thirty percent perfume concentration and is therefore considered one of the most potent and purest options for fragrance connoisseurs. These typically linger on the skin for hours or until you wash them off, so these are best for the most important of events and people if you’re the one giving it to them.

So, with this bit of knowledge in mind you can make the best choice for you and your beau. Shay Sends Smiles typically carries lower end products but don’t call em cheap because high end products are not in everyone’s budget.
