After Dark Men’s Body Spray Review
After Dark Men’s Body Spray by Bath and Body Works is a very sensual scent. While it smells almost heavenly it’s definitely meant for a man. The tonka notes are warm, smooth and very sensual; and while it’s giving very vanilla it’s way more powerful and masculine. The amber notes are what makes this scent so addictive to smell and the spiced bergamot brings it all home as there is a spiciness to it that’s hard to miss. Like I said, this scent is definitely soft but it’s a fragrance for a man.
Base Note: Smooth Tonka Bean
Based on the notes, especially of the Tonka, I would say this scent fell under the category of Fougère (Ferns) and Amber families. Tonka beans come from the tropical rainforests of Central America and parts of South America and are about the size of an almond. The United States is one the largest importers of the Tonka bean due to it’s popularity in perfumes. Tonka bean can be described as a mix of sweet, spicy, nutty, herbaceous, and woody. It is a very pleasant aroma which can be noted in After Dark right away but is sits under the Spiced Bergamot and the Amber is just a hint. So, while it is smooth, the Spiced Bergamot definitely changes the tone and gives off “men’s aftershave” vibes. But this is natural of body sprays due to the alcohol content allotted.
My overall opinion is that After Dark Men’s Body Spray From Bath and Body Works is warm, welcoming, and even seductive at times. I think it’s perfect for any age group ranging from young teens to older men even the ones still clinging to their youth as often there are other scents available that are more suitable for them such as Smoked Old Fashioned which was great but has been discontinued. The notes of Tonka Bean and amber are found in lots of fragrances for men.
Tonka Bean Uses & Benefits
In some cultures, the tonka bean is considered an aphrodisiac and has been nicknamed the “love-wishing bean.” Tonka has plenty of medicinal benefits such as antiseptic, anti-coagulant, and anti-inflammatory properties that treated various conditions by consuming it in elixirs and drinks. Tonka became illegal to consume in The United States in 1956 due to the extracted compound coumarin thought to cause excessive liver damage. The elixirs were said to promote relaxation to help calm the mind and ward off negative thoughts and were thus used to treat things like cramps, nausea, spasms, swelling, and even tuberculosis. Today in the United States we rely on the natural and smooth aroma which is often described as quite seductive and pleasant.
