Choosing the Right Formula
With cooler, drier air about to make its way in, choosing the right formula will be key to keeping clean, moisturized, and health skin. Washing your face is the first step to a clean and clear complexion because it works out all of the dirt and oil that accumulates on and in the pores of skin. But you don’t want to choose the wrong formula when summer is exchanged for dry, cold temperatures and blistering cold wind.
Mastering the Method That’s Right for You
Cleansing your face at least twice a day is recommended, once in the morning and once in the evening but your schedule may be different. The reason is because you want to wash away the day, and you want to wash away the excess oils your skin secretes at night. This will prevent build up and help prevent acne caused by dirt build up. I also recommend changing the pillow cases and even washing the pillows to help battle acne if you are prone to breakouts.
Now, depending on what you typically use, some use just their hands and others use cloths, pads, and even loofahs; you want to start with a clean object regardless of what it is. Don’t allow the water to get too hot because this will only exasperate dry skin. Massage the cleanser in gently and work it into a good lather focusing on your problem areas whether if you have any. This isn’t a time to scrb. Be gentle. It’s your face not your crack.
After a good washing and rinsing you want to pat it dry remembering to remain gentle to prevent redness or irritation. After this you want to carry on with your daily skin care routine whether that is sealing in moisture or using acne treatments or toners. Either way, you want to start your skin care routine with a good face cleanser suitable for your skin.
Type of Skin to Consider when Choosing the Right Formula for You
Oily Skin: When you have problems with oily skin, the goal is to reduce the shin and excess sebum without removing the skins natural oils. Mild cleansing gels are the best options here as they produce lovely lathers that cut through the oil and many are still moisturising.
Acne Prone Skin: To help with acne prone skin, you want a cleanser that has benzoyl peroxide in it to rid your skin of the acne causing bacteria.
Combination Skin: Combination skis is both oily and dry and maybe at the same time so you want a gentle cleanser but also one with glycolic acid in it to help combat the oily skin without being too harsh and irritating the dry patches that are left. It also exfoliates and reduces blotchy skin pigmentation.
Dry Skin: When you have dry skin you want to try out the creamier formulas that add additional moisture to the skin and avoid ingredients like salicylic acid which could irritate the skin.
Sensitive Skin: As a person that suffers with sensitive skin, any ol’ formula just won’t do. You will want to find fragrance free, dye free, and sulfate free formulas that will offer a very gentle cleanse without that squeaky clean, tight feeling.
