Why Fall Feels So Cozy

Why Fall Fells So Cozy

For many households including mine, fall provides stability and routine and a welcoming transition from summer to winter when the seasons start to change. The weather gets a bit more crisp, the days grow shorter and if you’re lucky you’re in a state where the leaves begin to change and become brighter and bolder more beautiful colors.
Warm traditions of hot apple pie and the smell of warm baked bread often wafts through the air because this is the time that you’d visit the cider mill or the nearest farmers market to pick out a carving pumpkin and some gourds to decorate with.
Fall is the season with the most perfect weather because it offers the ability to get outside and do things that bring you closer together. The busy pace of the summer slows down and the cooler air bring a sense of security along with sweater weather comfort we all look forward to after months of the blistering heat and the scorching sun.

The Perfect Weather

Fall is accompanied by some of the best weather. It’s not too hot and not too cold so getting out for a brisk walk is easier and you can reach some of those work out goals. Fall weather is comfortable and the days begin to grow shorter with the nights that last longer which to me is more relaxing. I like the stillness. The night breezes are cool but satisfying and it’s the perfect time to cuddle up on the porch with a hot cup of cocoa or tea under the moonlight if you can or want to.

This is the time of the year that you can use your fireplace instead of a heater or use the warmth of the stove from preparing traditional meals or fall time desserts. It feels chilly enough to cut on the heat but you can do so many other things to warm up. This is the time to bring out those baking skills because fall is the time of harvest for autumn flavors such as pumpkins and squash and who can forget the delicious washington red apples. The smell of fresh baked pies and nuts and pecans and cinnamons and spices all waft through the crisp clean air and wraps it in love. Fall just has the most perfect weather to enjoy all the cozy traditions you remember as a little kid and the ones you create as an adult that your kids end up remembering forever.

Cozy Traditions

From sweaters and blankets to hot drinks and homemade meals, fall invites rituals and traditions that bring comfort and long lasting memories that you can share with the whole family. For me cozy traditions look like stocking up on my favorite teas and enjoying more hot baths with bath salts and aromatherapy because I happen to love to be surrounded by the hot steam and relaxing aromas.
I love apple cider and hot, fresh doughnuts with trips to go apple picking at the old cider mill. Even though I don’t have kids, I love shopping for the perfect pumpkin and gourds to decorate with.

Pumpkin pie and cinnamon and cloves, and the beginning of decorating with pine combs are so nostalgic to me and bring me so much emotional joy because it blends the switching of seasons. While this was not how we behaved in my home, I can absolutely remember sitting in front of the tv and watching family shows and now that I am older, I create these cozy traditions and comforting memories on my own. Fall just has so much potential for self love rituals and self care even if you don’t have a traditional family.

A Slower Pace

Fall offers a slower pace and a time for calmness and reflection as summer ends and you realize it’s time to wind down but to also pick up the pace. You’re no longer trying to pack as much as you can into your day because it’s long and everlasting but fall is very different. The fall brings an end to all the long summer nights and trying to party until the sun goes down.
The sun starts to set earlier and your body begins to see this as a time to rest. Sleep is so much better in the fall as the nights are cooler and it’s time to bring out the warm, soft blankets that bring comfort and make you want to stay in the bed a little longer.

Beautiful Changes

Fall stimulates our senses with all the beautiful scenery and nostalgic feelings you get from the seasonal change many of us remember very fondly because of the back to back holidays and marketing used for them. The leaves are starting to show robust reds, yellows and golds, the weather is nice and inviting and the night time skies are starry and clear. The beautiful changes of the season of fall are more than just leaves though because the first holiday is so much joy whether you are a kid or not. The They really give you a lot to look forward to no matter your age especially if you love decorations, candles and body care items.

A Sense of Comfort & Security

Fall offers a sense of comfort and security because the children are going back to school and the schedule once again has predictability and timeliness for a lot of parents. Even if one has no children in school the reality is this sense of comfort affects the entire community because you too see the kids getting off to school, pass them in traffic in the morning rush, and even hear them coming down the street because you live very close to a school. These changes indicate the end of the year is on the way and it’s time to wrap things up and get prepared for a new year because winter is on the way. Our homes begin to become filled with warmer, safer and more connected feelings as we bring out the sweaters and warm blankets and pj’s.
